Napa Wine Train –a Lovely Way to Tour

If you are visiting the Napa Valley wine country for the first time the Napa Wine Train is a great way to discover the area. Trains are well known as a low-key and relaxing way to travel and it is also a relaxing way to see many of the wineries and vineyards located in the valley.

You board the train at the depot located in downtown Napa and travel to St. Helena and back. The Napa Wine Train takes you on a two to three hour laid back tour of the valley’s picturesque vineyards and wineries.

The Napa Wine Train Offers Many Options

The Napa wine train offers a variety of lunch and dinner options. They range from fifty dollars for the trip alone on up to $130 for a gourmet meal. Wine is included only with special packages. A budget conscious suggestion is to simply pay for a wine tasting and order appetizers from their a-la-carte menu to enjoy with your wine samplings.

The train only stops at one vineyard, so you may want to go to more on your own. The staff on board the Napa Wine Train are very knowledgeable about the history of Napa Valley and many of the wineries. They can recommend others in the area and even help you plan which wineries to visit to enjoy the best Napa Valley wine tasting during rest of your stay.

The Napa Wine Train is full of character and charm. If you are looking for a relaxing and romantic evening with your wife or special friend this would be great date. Because of the casual atmosphere the dress code is casual as well.

Children are welcome aboard the train but they must be carefully supervised by their parents. They do offer a family night two times a month during the school year where one 3 to 12 year old child, per adult is free. The children are supervised in a separate car and have their own special meals. Due to space restrictions, child carriers and strollers are not allowed on board.

They also offer other specialized trips such as the murder mystery trip, winemaker dinner and full moon trips. It is a small train consisting of nine rail cars that are pulled by a double-sided Alco Diesel Engine. Seating is limited, the schedule varies and they only make four to six trips a week. We recommend that if you want to take on of their tours, call ahead and make a reservation.
