For a great getaway idea consider a Napa wine tasting holiday. This would be a great destination idea for a honeymoon, anniversary or birthday. The Napa Valley is home to over four hundred wineries and vineyards. Most have been owned by the same family for over a hundred years.
This area has gained quite a reputation for its world class wine production. There are so many Napa Valley wineries to visit you may want to stay for several days. This would allow you to take your time and visit 3 or 4 vineyards a day. If you decide to purchase some wine most vineyards can have your wine shipped directly to your home. This is especially convenient if you have traveled to the area by plane.
Before embarking on a Napa wine tasting tour it is a good idea to have a designated driver. Of course your designated driver would not be able to enjoy sampling the flavors of all the great wines available in the Napa Valley. On the Napa Valley Wine tours there are tour vans that will take several people at a time to a few pre-selected vineyards. Another option is to hire a limousine if that fits into your budget.
If you do not want to appoint a designated driver you may want to consider taking a ride on the Napa Wine Train. Aboard the wine train you not only get to take part in Napa wine tasting but have a gourmet dinner as well. The Wine Train is well known as one of the best restaurants in the Valley.

Most of the wineries do charge for tasting their wines. It may cost as much as $10 per taste. Some vineyards give you a souvenir glass and will also allow you to share a tasting.
The are many fine hotels in Napa Valley with the Napa River Inn being one of the best. Almost every hotel in the Napa Valley will be able to supply you with a map of the valley. Quite often some hotels will have a staff person who has been well educated about the area’s wines. They will be able to suggest which ones should be on your “must see and taste” list. They may also be able to help you map out a tour of the best nearby vineyards.
